Who is cody whittle?
I am Cody Whittle: Entrepreneur, Decorah resident, and advocate for sustainable living. I’m running for Decorah City Council at-Large and I want to bring equitable and civil solutions to the citizens of Decorah.
My story begins in the Driftless region. I was raised in Elkader, Iowa and my love for the outdoors and adventure brought me to the West Coast of California after graduating from high school. There, I graduated with a degree in Design from UC Davis where I was able to pursue my passion for creativity and design, eventually leading me to building my own business and career as an entrepreneur.
In 2016, I felt called to come back home to the Driftless, and Decorah. Here, I planted the roots of my business, Big Driftless, where I have encouraged and inspired this regional community to explore the natural wonder of this area while learning to appreciate and protect the outdoor resources surrounding us. It is important to me to see that our neighbors and community members have equal access to housing, income opportunities and affordable means of living. As a renter, it is important to me that there are renters representing our elected city officials, as nearly one third of Decorah’s residents do not own their homes.
As an avid cyclist and lover of the Driftless landscape, I am deeply committed to protecting our natural environment for future generations. Serving on the City Council would be an honor, and I’m excited to work together with all residents to build a more vibrant and sustainable Decorah.
I believe in working together to create a thriving, inclusive community where all residents have access to affordable housing, good-paying jobs, and opportunities to live sustainably. It is also my goal to be part of a community where everyone has the freedom to express themselves without fear of judgment or harm, regardless of their background.
